Myenteric plexus in Hirschsprung's disease.

چکیده
The absence of ganglion cells and the presence of abnormal bundles of unmyelinated fibres in the affected segment in Hirschsprung's disease was first well described by Whitehouse and Kernohan (f948). However, previous authors who have studied this problem have used standard transverse sections of the gut to demonstrate the abnormalities but these give a very inadequate view of the plexus which is a complicated network lying parallel to the gut wall. If the intestine is cut in this plane the plexus can be viewed en face which gives a much better picture of the anatomy and pathology.

Hirschsprung's disease, also known as congenital aganglionic megacolon, is a congenital disorder which develops due to an absence of neural ganglia in a segment of large bowel. Most commonly, the rectum or rectosigmoid, and rarely other areas or the entire colon are involved. In this disease, all three neural plexi, i.e., the myenteric (Auerbach's) plexus, the superficial submucosal (Meiss...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate the expression and significance of neuroligins in myenteric cells of Cajal (ICC-MY) in Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR). METHODS Longitudinal muscle with adherent myenteric plexus (LMMP) from surgical excision waste colon of HSCR children were prepared by peeling off the mucous layer, sub-mucosal layer and circular muscle. Neuroligins, c-Kit (c-Ki...
متن کاملHirschsprung's disease and idiopathic megacolon in adults and adolescents.
The distinction between Hirschsprung's disease and idiopathic megacolon in childhood dates from the classic clinical, radiological, and histological studies of Bodian, Stephens, and Ward. This article describes clinical experience over 15 years of 94 patients in whom megacolon of these two types was recognised for the first time after the age of 10, to illustrate the problems of diagnosis and t...
متن کاملHirschsprung's disease in adults: report of a case and review of the literature.
Hirschsprung's disease in the adult is a rare and frequently misdiagnosed cause of long-standing refractory constipation. We report a case of Hirschsprung's disease in a 23-year-old man and review the literature. The patient had a history of chronic constipation that required daily enemas, since early infancy, but he had remained in good health until intestinal obstruction developed. As a subem...
متن کاملIn vitro culture and characterization of enteric neural precursor cells from human gut biopsy specimens using polymer scaffold.
In vitro expansion and characterization of neural precursor cells from human gut biopsy specimens with or without Hirschsprung's disease using a novel thermoreversible gelation polymer (TGP) is reported aiming at a possible future treatment. Gut biopsy samples were obtained from five patients undergoing gut resection for Hirschsprung's disease (n = 1) or gastrointestinal disorders (n = 4). Cell...
